June 14th, the United States celebrates our flag (as well as the birthday of the US Army).     In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation for the observance of June 14 as Flag Day as that’s the day in 1777 that the Second Continental Congress adopted the flag that Betsy Ross designed.  Flag Day became official in 1949 when President Harry Truman signed the legislation. Our first national flag had 13 stars arranged in a circle on a blue field and 13 stripes; 7 red and 6 white.

November 6th is Flag Day in the Dominican Republic.  Their flag consists of a centered white cross that extends to the edges and divides the flag into four rectangles – the top ones are blue and red, and the bottom ones are red and blue. The white represent peace and honesty, the red represents hardiness, bravery, strength & valor and the blue represents vigilance, truth and loyalty, perseverance & justice. Their flag was altered from the layout of the blue and red of the Haitian flag. A large white cross was added over it to symbolize faith.
