More on arriving at your resort in the Dominican Republic

More on arriving at your resort….

CHECK INThere are other reasons for long resort check-in lines in the Dominican.  There never seems to be actual check-in lines.    There will most likely be just a cluster of people
hanging around the front desk hoping to make eye contact with the next available clerk.  Also, most (if not all) resorts in the Dominican offer weekend specials to local Dominicans.  This almost always ensures that the resorts get filled.  The locals do take advantage of these weekend specials, so if you are checking in on a Friday or Saturday; so are they.  And, they will likely get waited on before you.  It’s not right.  It’s not fair.  But again, there is not a thing that you can do about it.  The locals may be friends or relatives of resort employees or frequent weekend guests.  And just the fact that they can communicate so  better  puts them ahead of you.

Another aggravation while waiting to be checked in is the current guests interrupting with their questions and/or current concerns.  It has been my experience that the hotel clerks will always interrupt your check-in process to assist them.  Again, remain calm, practice deep breathing techniques, paste a smile on your face, and repeat to yourself….I am on vacation, I am on vacation, I am on vacation.  It has also been my experience that if you are not angry and speak pleasantly when it is finally your turn; you may  get a room upgrade or a bottle of champagne.
